Are lotion and toothpaste considered liquids when flying?

I know all the rules about 3-1-1 and all that, I’m just not positive on whether they would be strict about toothpaste and lotion.

I’m assuming mascara and foundation would be considered liquid but I thought I’d ask about that too!
Oh, and contacts too. Are they considered liquid if they are in the original packaging?
Funny that contacts are fine when that clearly is liquid they are sitting in, whereas toothpaste that is almost solid is not. Thanks everyone!

they are very strict about toothpaste i got a whole brand new tube taken away at a security checkpoint. lotion is out too but makeup should be okay. All liquids, gels and aerosols must be in three-ounce or smaller containers. Larger containers that are half-full or toothpaste tubes rolled up are not allowed. Each container must be three ounces or smaller. All liquids, gels and aerosols must be placed in a single, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag. Gallon size bags or bags that are not zip-top such as fold-over sandwich bags are not allowed. Each traveler can use only one, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag. BUT- if you check you luggage you’ll be fine. it’s only if you try to carry-on toothpaste and lotion that you will get it taken away from you. if you absolutely have to have it get the travel size toothpaste and a mini bottle of lotion. or buy the ounce bottles from target or walmart and fill them up with your brand of toothpaste or lotion :) hope this helps!

as far as the contact solution is concerned
To ensure the health and welfare of certain air travelers, in the absence of suspicious activity or items, greater than 3 ounces of the following liquids, gels and aerosols are permitted through the security checkpoint in reasonable quantities for the duration of your itinerary (all exceptions must be presented to the security officer in front of the checkpoint): (liquids, gels, and aerosols) including KY jelly, eye drops, and saline solution for medical purposes;

You are allowed reasonable amounts over 3 ounces of the items above in your carry-on baggage, but you will need to perform the following:

1. Separate these items from the liquids, gels, and aerosols in your quart-size and zip-top bag.
2. Declare you have the items to one of our Security Officers at the security checkpoint.
3. Present these items for additional inspection once reaching the X-ray. These items are subject to additional screening.

hope all this helps!

    Yes, unfortunately the lotions and pastes are all considered liquids by the FAA. Even you lipglosses and mascaras will need to be in a ziploc baggie. I avoid the hassle and ship all of my toiletries. I’ve never had a problem with my contacts though if they were in the original packaging.

    The prohibition is against liquids and gels. Yes, toothpaste and lotion fall into those categories, as does liquid foundation. I’m not too sure about mascara, but I always put mine in the one-quart ziplock bag just to be sure.

    Your contacts are OK, and there is an exception for the size of the contact lens fluid container. However, you *must* declare it to the TSA agent *before* you go through security.
